Cognition Education is pleased to announce that is it has been awarded the contract for the provision of professional services for the Ministry of Education for 'Gifted and Talented Education’.

Objectives
The major objectives of the Regional Symposia are to:

  • Share critical information about Gifted and Talented policy, research and practice in New Zealand and internationally
  • Focus on raising academic outcomes for New Zealand’s most able learners
  • Provide an opportunity for attendees to make connections with other schools, private providers, community groups and relevant stakeholders in their region.

This is an exciting opportunity for Cognition as we look forward to working with and involving the education sector within the work strands we are undertaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

Dr Jenny Horsley from Victoria University of Wellington will provide the professional leadership for this contract. Jenny has recently completed a Fulbright scholarship in gifted and talented education at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

Micheal King from Cognition will project manage the contract. He is one of Cognition's most experienced consultants and project managers. Micheal’s experience and expertise in teaching and learning and as a school leader will add value to this project. 

The work strands will include:

  • Regional symposia in 12 centres across the country
  • The development and trailing of an Identification toolkit
  • A ‘refresh’ to the gifted and talented TKI website
  • In-depth work with 30 schools

JENNY HORSLEY
PhD, MEd (Hons), Higher Dip Tchg

 

Jenny is Professional Leader of the Gifted and Talented Education project. She has a wealth of classroom experience, having taught for many years prior to accepting a lecturing position at Victoria University of Wellington.  Jenny’s fields of interest includes gifted education with particular focus on those factors that facilitate high-academic learning in regular classrooms.

She is on the editorial board of APEX, The NZ Journal of Gifted Education, and a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on Gifted and Talented.

  MICHEAL KING

Micheal is the Project Manager of the Gifted and Talented Education project. He has a wealth of classroom and leadership experience, having taught and held leadership position in a number of New Zealand schools prior to coming to Cognition in 2004. Micheal’s field of interest includes the development of high quality leadership in New Zealand school with a strong focus on lifting student achievement for all.
