A central part of knowing if you are making a difference to student learning and achievement is by collecting assessment information. Assessment is the process of gathering, analysing, interpreting and using information about students' progress and achievement to improve teaching and learning. Assessment provides information to students about their learning and can be used by students to answer three important questions:
Research shows that when students have this information they get better learning outcomes and better results. Assessment information can be used across all levels of the education system as feedback. It is a way of working out what is going well and where further resources might be needed to improve results. Assessment for learning As well as working with schools to consider their needs for assessment information at a school level, we have a clear focus on the role of that information at classroom level. We are able to support teachers to think about how they can use information about student learning to change their classroom practice to meet the needs of all learners. e-asTTle (asTTle)
