Dr Phil Coogan

|
Dr Coogan is a well-respected educator and academic, with a background in secondary school English teaching. He brings to the team a wealth of experience within the education sector. Before joining Cognition, he was Director of Unitec in Schools, a professional development consultancy and contracting service. Prior to that, he developed and led the Unitec Secondary Teacher Education Programme, where he lectured in English and assessment and qualifications. Dr Coogan has forged a considerable reputation with his creative approach to leadership of online curriculum communities. This has included directing English Online, ESOL Online, Literacy Online, Arts Online and Social Sciences Online. He has also directed contracts focusing on ICT strategic leadership and effective communities of practice. His research interests include the impact of high-stakes assessment on innovation in secondary schools, especially innovations such as the introduction of ICTs for learning. |

Chris Jager

From a secondary mathematics and computing teaching background, Chris has been an ICT advisor to schools, a national facilitator for ICT professional development clusters and a director on the board of the International Society for Technology in Education. Chris joined Cognition Education as an ICT specialist supporting schooling improvement teams in the Middle East. Her work on our New Zealand projects includes the consolidation phase of the Digital Technologies Project and the AIMHI ICTPD cluster which is focused on using assessment evidence to inform teaching and learning through collaborative use of ICTs. In these projects Chris has been involved in planning, implementing and evaluating professional support, recognising the unique culture within schools and the varying professional learning needs of teachers. |

Tracy Bowker

Tracy has extensive experience in secondary education, with a specialty in digital education. Before joining Cognition, she worked at management level within a secondary school and has been part of review groups, examiner, and moderator for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement. Her recent work as the project director of the Ministry of Education Digital Technologies Guidelines initiative involved curriculum and assessment development in digital education, including the leadership of professional development for 135 secondary schools in clusters across New Zealand. Tracy was the professional leader for the INSTEP project which focused on professional learning within an online environment. She currently works on a number of projects that include management of websites. |

Maria Lute

|
Maria joined Cognition Education as professional manager of Te Kete Ipurangi, the Ministry of Education’s portal for schools, in 2002. For 6 years she led a team of professionals providing quality assurance and practical professional support in the use of the extensive resources available to teachers. Maria brings this experience to her current role as project manager for English Online, ESOL Online and Literacy Online, where she works with teachers to support their educational needs.
With a background in teaching, and as a credentialed project manager, Maria has the skill-set to deliver to the professional development needs of the schooling sector, with a special interest in the use of current and emerging technologies to promote learning. |
