Cognition is assisting the Government of Nauru with a number of projects, including the development of a new social science curriculum. This work, led by Tanya Samu Wendt of the University of Auckland, has a strong focus on developing a curriculum focused on the past and present place of the Nauruan people, both in their own nation and in a global context. The involvement of local teachers and educators is central to the development process. In partnership with the University of Waikato, we have also completed a scoping report on Nauru’s needs in initial and in-service teacher education and we are in discussion with the government about possible future support in these areas. These projects are funded through collaboration between NZAID and AusAID, the New Zealand and Australian aid agencies. |
